A special kind of thin and fine cotton which is printed in soft prints and calico is very popular in this area and it is known to be sold extensively among local, national and international traders.

Kozhikode also boasts of a large variety of readymade garments. Besides woven textiles and garments Kozhikode has a large variety of other handcrafted materials like wood carvings in rosewood and sandal wood. These have been exported the world over.

Along with these highly coveted goods the quality city bazaars have on offer some traditionally old fashioned book shops where one can spend hours going through the works of the old masters as also the newer adventures of the written word by current aspiring and novice writers.

The SM Street is famous for its freshly prepared halwa and desiccated banana chips. Similarly, for spices to be picked up at wholesale rates one can go to the Big Bazar Road. There is a huge variety of there highly aromatic spices a huge variety of fragrant Kerela spices on display and sale in this shopping areas.

Fabrics, handlooms and hand woven variety of cottons are also sold here. The hand woven cottons are sold in the Comtrust store which is located in Beypore. There are wonderful stores on the Mavoor Road and the CSI at Mananchira where shops sell a variety of products made from horn carvings to coir products.

Besides, there are many more as well but they have gradually given way to the many up and coming malls namely the R.P. Mall, the Focus Mall, the Grand Hi street Mall, Enaralad Mall and the Space Mall which has four floors and is spread over a vast area of 1,30,000 square feet.
